Supporting Commercial and Industrial Business, Big or Small

70% Residential and 30% Industrial/Commercial, this is the tax base that will save the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. This is what Mayor Lovatt would have you think. This is going to save our Town from destroying the environment, control municipal taxes and have rainbows form over the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Expanding development on to the Oak Ridges Moraine, will save the Oak Ridges Moraine.

In this context, Indusrial/Commercial properties are both the hero’s and the villains. If we heavily tax these businesses, we need to be prepared to support those businesses. We need to recognize the values businesses bring to our economy, and we need to help new or established business find success in our community. We need to provide entrepreneur’s support to start and grow a successful business. Services can include complimentary business information, mentoring, advise and consultation, business plans, research assistance development workshops, networking opportunities and information that will help guide entrepreneurs through the endless red tape of government expectations.

A service that can be directed by the Town, but controlled by the business community. Businesses helping businesses. With the help of business leaders in our community, we can identify the shortfalls that are needed to supply our communities with what is needed to shop and work in our communities.

There are Federal and Provincial grants that are available to start up businesses and to help established businesses grow and prosper in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Business grants, and promotional activities to encourage residents and tourists to shop in Whitchurch-Stouffville can be established. This has to be led by the business community and business leaders who have the experience and the knowledge to successfully encourage the expansion of small to medium sized businesses.

Compact, sustainable communities will most certainly grow our Town’s business portfolio. If residents can walk, bike, use Transit or need only a short drive to all the necessities needed to live and to work then businesses will grow and prosper. Businesses need to be on major transit corridors. Expanding the availability of Transit now, will encourage business to come to Whitchurch-Stouffville and we can show those possible entrepreneurs that Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is here to support them and the employees that are needed.

We can make it work, we just need a different kind of better,
